A previous postdealt with St. Anthony Parish High School, later East Catholic High School, located Gratiot and Centerline (now Field) on Detroit's East Side.
The St. Anthony High class of 1961 has put together a great website, which coincided nicely with the 50th Reunion held September 23-25, 2011. Not only are there a great many photos from the actual event, the website contains a wealth of archival material, including:
- Scans of all the student newspapers from all four years: The Prelude
- The 1961 Memory Book
- Pictures of faculty and school year events
Even though St. Anthony High School had 196 Seniors in its 1961 graduating class, as happened to so many Detroit area Catholic high schools in the 1969-71 era, St. Anthony High School ceased to exist as a separate institution in 1969. St. Anthony High School consolidated with Nativity, St. Charles and St. Catherine to form East Catholic High School, located in the former St. Anthony school building. East Catholic closed its doors in 2004.
The 1961 class site has been updated as recently as March 31, 2012, with photos and a video of the demolition of the high school building on the very day of the sad event.
More tomorrow about what happened to the builiding after East Catholic closed.
